How to tweak your elementaryOS Luna, to a new and updated system.

Enjoy a new extended life for your system...



elementaryOS it's a fantastic, eye-candy operating system based on Ubuntu 12.04Lts. As we posted previously, Ubuntu 12.04Lts had is fourth update, and saw the support stretched until 2017. With this, Ubuntu gave a new impetus for distributions already installed, but conditioned to an outdated kernel, and software.

If you have already installed eOS, and want to upgrade your system to a newer kernel, which allows you update, or install the latest software packages, as also to the newest drivers for your computer, you just need to install the following command line.
For a flawless installation, press Ctrl + Alt + T on your keyboard to open the terminal. Then copy (Ctrl + C) command lines given below one by one, and then paste (Ctrl + V) into terminal. (Give the order of execution by pressing the enter key)
      • sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-trusty xserver-xorg-lts-trusty
      • sudo apt-get update
      • sudo apt-get upgrade
02/24/2015: To update the latest Kernel ( 3.16 ) and Xorg of Ubuntu 14.04.2 Trusty Tahr
      • sudo apt-get install --install-recommends linux-generic-lts-trusty xserver-xorg-lts-trusty libgl1-mesa-glx-lts-trusty

You can also give a new fresh look, and have access to third party icons for the elementary icon theme, additional plank themes, wallpapers, and more with this official supplementary PPA for elementaryOS Luna. Once more, just copy and paste on your terminal.
For a flawless installation, press Ctrl + Alt + T on your keyboard to open the terminal. Then copy (Ctrl + C) command lines given below one by one, and then paste (Ctrl + V) into terminal. (Give the order of execution by pressing the enter key)
      • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:versable/elementary-update 
      • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:elementary-br/projects
      • sudo apt-get update
After this, you can use Synaptic to see all the new packages that are available, like the picture bellow. If you don't have Synaptic installed, just copy and paste the following command line.

      • sudo apt-get install synaptic

After adding the new PPA's, you can choose between several themes, icons as software, but first, I recommend to install the TWEAK Tool. This will allow you to change the Look and Feel of your eOS. The image below shows how can you do it.

 Then after installing, open the System Settings, and as you can see on image, a new icon appears. Click on the Tweak Tooll icon, and...

In here, you can change the theme, icons, fonts, plank theme, and so on...
