Install Indicator Netspeed on Ubuntu releases, and derivatives 
From 12.04 Lts to 14.04 Lts

This article shows how to install Indicator Netspeed, that is inspired by the old netspeed GNOME applet, and it's a simple indicator which displays displays the total current network traffic on the panel, and from its menu is possible to check out the current download or upload speed as individual values.

The installation process is simple and easy to do it, just copy and paste the following command lines.
For a flawless installation, press Ctrl + Alt + T on your keyboard to open the terminal. Then copy (Ctrl + C) command lines given below one by one, and then paste (Ctrl + V) into terminal. (Give the order of execution by pressing the enter key)
  • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:nilarimogard/webupd8
  • sudo apt-get update
  • sudo apt-get install indicator-netspeed
