SMPlayer 16.1.0... How to install on Ubuntu 14.10 > 15.10 based systems

On this small tutorial, we show how to install SMPlayer 16.1.0 on Ubuntu based systems, using a Terminal as our main tool to install.

Brief introduction...

       SMPlayer is a front-end for the mighty open source MPV and MPlayer. It's capable of playing almost all audio and video formats like avi, mkv, wmv, mp4, mpeg, and also has is own YouTube browser to download and play videos online etc.

showing how to install SMPlayer on Ubuntu based systems.

How to install on Ubuntu 14.04 > 15.10 based systems?
Like: Ubuntu Family, LinuxMint, elementaryOS, LinuxLite, etc...

Note: This procedure will add a third party repository to your system.

Open your terminal, then copy and paste the follow commands lines
    • To install for the first time
      • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rvm/smplayer
      • sudo apt-get update
      • sudo apt-get install smplayer smtube smplayer-themes smplayer-skins

    • To upgrade from a previous version
      • sudo add-apt-repository ppa:rvm/smplayer
      • sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade

    If you aren't happy with this new version, you can always remove it.
    • sudo ppa-purge ppa:rvm/smplayer
